Look-around Head Mounted Display

The Carl Zeiss Look-around Head Mounted Display has been designed as a laboratory prototype in the research department of Carl Zeiss AG in Oberkochen. Main focus of the design has been to achieve superior optical quality in a lightweight and ergonomic setup. Different configurations of the system have been set up and tested, e.g. monocular and binocular versions, stereo- and monoscopic versions and different kinds of mounts, e.g. the head-belt mount shown in the picture above.

Status

The technology has been transferred from the research department of Carl Zeiss AG to a new subsidiary within the Carl Zeiss group, the Carl Zeiss Mobile Optics GmbH. The technology is under further development there. A series product with enhanced specifications will be available in autumn 2006.
