IST 2006 – HELSINKI 19-20 November 2006
From 19th to 24th of November it has been kept in Helsinki the “IST 2006 – Strategies for Leadership” event. The IST is the most important annual European event in the sector of Information Society Technologies and it collects the most qualified target in the field of Information and Communications Technologies (Researchers, technology transfer specialists, industry leaders,…).
This last edition of IST event, presenting the ICT research programme of the 7 Framework Programme, was the largest IST event ever. More than 4,500 people attended the Conference, Exhibition, Networking events and Workshops. There were almost 50 conference sessions, 160 exhibitors, 104 networking sessions and workshops.
Unlike the Conference and the Workshop, the IST 2006 Exhibition was open to the general public: it showed concrete results of research in and around Europe within the ICT field. The Exhibition area was divided by themes.
In order to show the first results and prototypes of the four Business Cases, the wearIT@work project has had a Research and Technology stand, situated in the “Emerging innovations and core technology” zone of the Exhibition.
The delegates who visited our stand were very interested in our new wearable technologies and prototypes.
In order to allow visitors to touch and wear our wearable technologies, we thought to carry with us a captivating game, called “Hotwire”, with an interesting prize for the winner.
The player, wearing the AMV (Aircraft Maintenance Vest), the WCG (Wearable Computing Glove) and an HMD (Head Mounted Display), had to perform a primary task and simultaneously answer the Wearable Computer some simple questions, as you can see in the picture.
The best player won an offstage insight of the latest technology in aircraft assembly at the Airbus A380 assembly line in Toulouse/France.
Thanks to the Hotwire competition and to the showed prototype, we received many feedbacks from hundred of visitors. We collected many new contacts from employees in the field of ICT, and we received many information requests and useful suggestions for new field of application of our business cases.
We also participated to the Best IST 2006 Exhibit competition: we are pleasing to the delegates that voted for us! Our stand was one of the first 10 best stands of the entire IST Exhibition!
