IFAWC 2007: The 4th International Forum on Applies Wearable Computers, 12-13th March 2007, IBM, Israel.
The 4th International Forum on Applied Wearable Computers took place on 12-13th March, hosted by IBM in Israel. The conference which was organized by wearIT@work and the Israeli partners Edna Pasher PhD & Associates, focused on wearable computers at the workplace, entertainment and games.
The conference was attended by over 100 people from within the field of wearable computers – wearIT partners, university and research centres. In addition, there was interest from potential users including clothing industries, design, security, and university students.
Sponsors of the event were Xsens from the Netherlands, who exhibited their human motion detectors, the MOVEN system – a body suite which includes small sensors which give real time information about the person wearing the suite and his/her positions and actions and building a virtual image of the body and movements.
The topics of health and security created the most interest. The ways in which wearable computers can help save lives and reduce mistakes and unnecessary risks.
The conference was hosted by IBM Israel, General Manager of IBM Israel – Meir Nissensohn opened the event together with Dr Eli Opper – Israel's cheif scientist, Marcel Shaton – General Manager National Coordinator – Israel Europe R&D Directorate (ISERD) and Prof Otthein Herzog of Bremen University and wearIT@work. The second day was opened by Shlomo Waxe – Director - Israel Association of Electronic, Information and Software Industries.
The conference was a wonderful opportunity for researchers, potential users and the general public to become acquainted with the concept of wearable computers and up to date research and developments. This gave wearIT@work partners the opportunity to show their work and share ideas and knowledge with people from outside the project.
