GZE Link Jacket
Technology name and one line description
Link jacket with cabling system integrated
Technology type
Research in materials, modelling, design study
Description
The integration of the wearable computer system on the clothing is based on a set of components linked and connected to various interaction devices. During the design of the “intelligent clothing” it was considered environmental conditions, ergonomic criteria the different types of devices that had to be integrated into the clothes.
Thanks to a smart cabling system, we can connect the head mounted display and audio system to the batteries. Wiring is placed into external patch on the back of the jacket running vertically along the spine.
The patch extends on the front of the jacket ending in the pockets where the batteries are placed.
It is a modular design and fixed with velcro strips so it is possible to use on other types of clothes, like t-shirts, sweaters and other.
The Jacket is composed by 4 pockets on the front side and a cabling system on the back.
This particular structure can be modified according the specific functionality, requirements and needs of the worker and according with the size of the Hardware components (Xybernaut MAV and the HMD from Zeiss and LUMUS). Also the pockets on the breast could be enlarged or could become a simple mount for the HMD.
The jacket could be implemented with a large pocket on the back for the HW and two large pockets for the HMD.
Use in wearIT@work project
Maintenance (EADS)
All scenarios in wearIT@work need smart clothes. The concept can be applied to any kind of basic clothing.
